Ellis Island: The Dream of America is an exciting symphonic piece to be performed at O Beautiful on November 17. It features actors from Cherry Creek Theatre speaking the true words of immigrants who passed through Ellis Island with orchestral underscoring and interludes provided by the wonderful Denver Philharmonic.
More than just a dynamic musical composition, Ellis Island touches me personally. In 1933, my mother came to this country through Ellis Island as a young bride from Scotland. She often told the story of how her full name, Davina Davidina Wilhelmina Monro Henry Rossman, was shortened to Davina Henry Rossman, by an emigration officer who felt it was, simply, “…much too long.”
I am pleased to perform in this inspirational work, and I would like to dedicate my performance to the memory of my mother.
While listening to this wonderful work, I would like to invite you to join with me and many others, to offer prayers and good thoughts to the millions of immigrants in this country and around the world who are striving to create a united world in which everyone can live in peace and harmony with one another.
I hope you will join us for this inspiring concert and GRAMMY®-nominated symphony.
