A Note from Kathy

Dear Friends,

It’s my great privilege to kick off our 70th Season performing Johann Sebastian Bach’s Violin & Oboe concerto for Oktoberfest on September 29!

Oboist Hideki Machida from the Bavarian Philharmonic, our sister orchestra in Munich, will cross the Atlantic to perform the concerto with me. It’s very exciting to collaborate with a colleague from halfway around the globe and bring our visions of the piece together into a unified whole.

Before Hideki arrives in Denver, I’m fortunate to rehearse with DPO oboist Loren Meaux. The more rehearsal time I have, the less nervous I’ll be for the performance!

Following the Bach, the orchestra performs Franz Schubert’s Magnificat with the Colorado Repertory Singers and a quartet of solo vocalists, and the soaring Second Symphony of Johannes Brahms is truly an audience favorite.

I hope you will share in my excitement for this season opener and raise a stein with a hearty “Prost!” to our exciting cross-global partnership.

Sincerely yours,

Katherine Thayer,
