Dig out your elf ears and wizard robes — we’re excited to announce our Lord of the Rings costume contest at The One Ring on April 8! Best adult costume wins two season tickets to our 2016–17 Season and best kid’s costume wins a Tattered Cover book store gift certificate.
Our student intern Jordan first read J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy when he was 14 during a summer road trip. “My mother and I would take turns reading the book aloud while we drove to Albuquerque,” he said. “The idea was to read the book to pass the time, but it became so engrossing. Thinking back upon the trip, all I can remember is the books and not the trip! I would definitely call it the highlight.”
Jordan says his favorite part of the story is when the four hobbits run into Tom Bombadil. “He appears to be the most powerful force in Middle Earth while also being very whimsical and sing-songy. Just so unusual and exciting!”
Sam — Frodo’s BFF and the “true hero” of the books — is Jordan’s favorite character, though he says that he would absolutely dress up as Gandalf, the White Wizard.
Jordan’s now 18 and is the student intern in the bass section of our orchestra. He’s a senior at Denver School of the Arts and has been playing the double bass for six years.
Who will you dress up as?
