Hopeless Romantics

Two’s company.

zalkind-golanFebruary 10 is date night at Hopeless Romantics. Bring someone special to experience two Romantic composers’ dramatic and lush music. Johannes Brahms’ Double Concerto features Lawrence Golan on violin and cellist Matthew Zalkind who was praised by The New York Times for his “impressive refinement, eloquent phrasing, and singing tone.” Brahm’s Double Concerto is paired with Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s rich and colorful symphonic poem, Symphony No. 4.

More Than Music

We host activities before, during and after each concert. More Than Music events are free to attend for all ticket holders. Here’s what we have lined up for this concert:

UClub Pre-Concert Dinner Date, seating 5:30–6:00pm

For just $30 per person, enjoy a delicious Valentine’s dinner buffet at the University Club — directly across the street from the hall. Full bar available for purchase starting at 5:00p, seating is between 5:30–6:00, and the staff will have you out the door before the concert at 7:30p. Coffee Station, starting at 6:15pm

Our friends at Purple Door Coffee will be brewing java for you to enjoy.

Pre-Concert Chat, 6:30pm

Join us for informal pre-concert chat in the CPC Chapel about the music you’ll be hearing hosted by our associate conductor. What should you listen for? What is the music’s historic and cultural context? Associate conductor Hisham Bravo Groover will give you insights into the music and music-makers you’ll be listening to. Pre-concert Chat is free to all ticket holders starting at 6:30pm.

Instrument Petting Zoo, 6:15–7:15pm

Honk! Buzz! Toot! Before the concert, find out about the different orchestra instruments. Pick up a trombone or a violin and give it a go! Instruments generously provided by Kolacny Music.

Video Booth, pre-concert & intermission

Make a silly face or kiss someone cute! Our media team will be set up with props to record your declarations of love for a video collage that we’ll post online after the concert. 💙💛

Reception, immediately following concert

Say hello! Join us in the lobby after the concert for refreshments, meet the musicians, buy a t-shirt — and have fun!

Nightcap, post-concert
