With Music, Community & Purpose

Denver Philharmonic Orchestra’s Take a Stand initiative is our ongoing commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and access: on stage, in our audience, and throughout the community.

What Is Take a Stand?

TAKE A STAND is a year-round branch of our More Than Music initiative focused on EDIA outreach, activism, and deep community partnership. Through performances, collaborations, and education, we highlight the voices, histories, and futures that shape our world—and show that classical music belongs to everyone.

At every concert, you’ll find a presence from local organizations, activists, and nonprofit partners working on the ground to create positive change in Denver and beyond. These partnerships bring resources, representation, and real impact to our performances, turning the concert hall into a space for connection, advocacy, and action.

Each month, our social media will also spotlight a cause that reflects our values: from youth empowerment to LGBTQ+ inclusion, accessibility, and more.

Together, we’re building a musical experience that doesn’t just entertain. It takes a stand.

Why It Matters

Classical music has the power to heal, connect, and inspire—but only if it’s accessible to all.

With Take a Stand, we’re:

  • Reducing financial and physical barriers to attendance
  • Opening up our concerts through free braille programs and haptic vests
  • Partnering with mission-aligned community organizations
  • Using our platform to educate and advocate
  • Centering underrepresented voices on stage and off

This work is ongoing. It’s intentional. And it’s only possible with you.
