Denver Philharmonic Orchestra Annual Report – 2024-25

Our 2024-25 Annual Report is Here

Another season in the books, and what a season it was. Our 2024-25 Annual Report is officially live, and it captures a year that asked more of this orchestra than almost any in recent memory: a full Music Director search, a brand new venue, and five concert cycles that took our audiences from a free outdoor concert on World Peace Day to a Halloween night full of trick-or-treaters to a Valentine’s weekend with fourteen conductors sharing the podium.

Here’s a quick look at the highlights.

By the Numbers

  • 7,021 tickets sold and distributed, a 17.7% increase over last year and a 73% jump over two seasons
  • 73% of our Adult/General Admission tickets went out through free, discounted, or Pay What You Can pricing, not full price
  • 164 Pay What You Can tickets claimed during our September launch window alone
  • 236 first time concertgoers who found us through free ticket offers on the Denver subreddit
  • Braille programs available at every single concert, no request necessary

A Season of Firsts

We added the Mapleton Arts Center as a second home for our matinee concerts, giving Adams County audiences their first chance to see DPO close to home. We also ran our most significant leadership transition in years: more than 20 conductors applied for the role of Music Director, three finalists each led a full concert cycle, and on January 24, 2025, we announced Scott O’Neil as our sixth Music Director. His first concert at the helm, RETROspective, closed the season as our highest rated performance of the year.

More Than Music

From friendship bracelets and a History Colorado exhibit at RETROspective to an upcycled art mural at our season opener, this was a year where every concert theme spilled out into the lobby. Add in service dogs in training, haptic vests for patrons who are deaf or hard of hearing, and our first ever spring gala, Back to the Orchestra, and it’s clear this was about a lot more than what happened on stage.

The Honest Part

This was also a big transition year financially. We invested heavily in the Music Director search, a second venue, and off site equipment storage, all while ticket and subscription revenue dipped during a wait and see period for our patrons. The full report doesn’t shy away from any of it, deficit included, along with the steps our Board has already taken to strengthen our financial oversight going forward.
