Our powerhouse season debuts with the Grand Opening of the Antonia Brico Stage. Emmy Award-winning filmmaker David Sherman ventured north to explore LoHi, Highlands Bridge with DPO principal trumpet Ryan Spencer — and maybe get a frozen treat along the way. Ryan will solo on Johann Nepomuk Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto on Friday, September 30. The Grand Opening is the dedication of our new stage celebrating our founder Antonia Brico. Two of the pieces on the program — Overtures to Leonore (No. 3) and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg — Antonia conducted at her debut as the first woman to lead the New York Philharmonic in 1938. Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony is the smashing finale at our 69th season premiere.
