Beethoven’s Immortal Beloved

Love is in the air! Celebrate Valentine’s Day weekend with our enchanting concert, Happily Ever After: a magical musical journey that will sweep you off your feet! In conjunction with our 5th International Conducting Competition and Workshop, conductors from around the globe will take the stage to lead the DPO.

It’s a real speed dating situation as the orchestra and conductors embark on a thrilling musical courtship together. Skills, talent, and chemistry will be put to the test; each movement of the program helmed by a different conductor, culminating in an eclectic mix of musical styles and interpretations.

The concert’s centerpiece will be the Colorado premiere of Nancy Ives‘ brand new violin concerto, Immortal Beloved, featuring soloist Denise Dillenbeck. To this day, no one knows for sure the name of Beethoven’s eternal muse and true love, the recipient of his famous “Immortal Beloved” letter. This concerto offers a portrait of the phenomenal women who surface as possibilities, told through Ives’ “many-splendored… melodic and compelling” style (Oregon ArtsWatch), and is an egalitarian tool carrying their voices into the present with timeless relevance.

Under the guidance of our Music Director Laureate, Maestro Lawrence Golan, these talented individuals will vie for the chance to return and lead the orchestra next season! Who will win the hearts of the audience and claim their musical Happily Ever After? Find out live this February!
