I attended my first Denver Philharmonic concert four years ago and immediately felt that I had found a gem! I had never experienced classical music in a way that welcomed me—and my lack of classical music knowledge—in such an energetic embrace.
This is what the arts should be! A giant embrace of every member of our community. An accessible experience that encourages everyone to revel in the power of music, to find the comfort to ask questions and learn more, and to have fun with each other in the process.
DPO creates that space. We provide free tickets for kids 12 and under each concert. We translate our program into Spanish for each concert. We offer free pre-show activities that provide fun opportunities to learn about the music and composers.
And your support helps to make all of this possible! This Colorado Gives Day we are setting a big goal—$20k for 2020. It is lofty and we know that you can help us get there.
I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of an organization that promotes such openness and inclusion. Join me in donating to DPO on December 10!

Did You Know about DPO?
We have been around for more than 70 years and are incredibly proud of the community that we have grown! Here are a few extra tidbits that you may not be familiar with about our work.
- In the 2018–19 season, we had 529 kids attend our concerts. That’s an average of 75 per performance!
- Our pre-show activities focus on fun learning opportunities! The past year has included: learning to play an instrument, learning how to waltz, tasting whiskey varieties—just to name a few.
- We translate our concert programs into Spanish and post them online for anyone to access. We also translate each program into Braille.
