Living through dark, cold, Scandinavian winters, Norwegians like composer Edvard Grieg mastered the art of hygge. Okay, but what the fugue is hygge?
It’s a Danish word (pronounced like hue-guh) that doesn’t quite translate to English — basically, it’s a sense of coziness and relaxation. With snow coming this weekend, it’s definitely what I’m doing all day on Saturday, and I’ll kick off that cozy relaxation Friday night at our next concert, GIANTS.
GIANTS has all the ingredients for hygge: togetherness (all you beautiful people), good lighting (have you seen the inside of the hall?), relaxation (Grieg! Brahms!), indulgence (craft beer and giant cookies), savoring simple pleasures (mmm, warm coffee…), and gratefulness (aren’t we lucky to have such talent here?).
So before the jammies come out and the Netflix goes on Saturday, kickstart your hygge weekend on Friday with the warmth and relaxation of the Denver Philharmonic.
